Home acne treatments - September 11th, 2009

So Web MD has an article on Home Treatments. This sounds like its right up my blogging ally! The first thing they say is to wash your face at least once a day. (Seriously? That’s the advice, I’m not an MD and I’ve said that a bunch of times.) Next they say that squeezing the acne can make it worse or cause an infection or a scar. The next bit of advice was new to me. They suggest water rather than oil based products.

Although this makes cognitive sense, I never really thought about things like lip gloss and how they contain oil and that this could potentially increase my acne. Good advice Web MD! Finally they recommend that you use some over the counter products. Ok, so they got a bit basic again at the end, but I am really glad that I read about the oil versus water idea. I wear make-up, often to cover up the acne. Perhaps it has oil in it and maybe I am just making my problems worse. The article also said that certain cleaners, lip sticks and cold creams can have oil in them.

This also goes back to frequent face washing. People touch their face all day long and people’s hands have natural oil on them. So, the oil is transferred to their face. I try not just to wash my face frequently, but my hands as well so that when I touch my face, they are cleaner and less likely to get my face oily, germy or anything else undesirable.
